I feel as though our family has spent this entire winter sick or hurting. And honestly, it is getting a bit tiring.
Let's see...Cassie started winter off with Pneumonia, then moved onto Influenza A. Most recently she had Ear Infection. And that isn't even to mention the surgery, 2nd cast, and minor colds that she has brought home.
Andy and I both had stomach flu. And Andy had his butt problem. (I'm sure he'll love having me type that on the internet. lol ) For the most part the two of us have been relitavely healthy.
Then there is Miss Kalli. She has remained healthy all winter. She was treated for Influenza A with Cassie, but only because they are so close and share a bed. She has been so healthy...until now.
Tonight Andy and I spent over 3 hours in the St Vincent's ER with Kalli. Who mind you slept on me most of the time we were there. Since Wednesday night Kalli has been running a high fever. It has ranged from 103.7 up to its highest at 4am this morning of 105.3. Tylenol or Ibuprofen would only bring it down to 100.0. She has also been coughing a lot and sounding like she is panting.
So tonight we decided enough and brought her in. We got into a room at about 7:00 and they took her oxygen level (94%) and her temperature (103.9) She was not real thrilled about the temperature part since they did this rectally. I was just happy to see that her temp hadn't magically gone to normal, as it usually does when you bring a child into the doctors. The nurse even seemed bothered by her temp, as at 6:00, a mere hour earlier, we had given her a dose of Ibuprofen.
The rest of the evening consisted of the doctor visits, lab nurses taking blood (which Kalli whimpered through, but didn't fight at all), a respiratory nurse giving her a breathing treatment, 2 x-rays, and me being very sore from having a sleeping child on me for 3 hours.
The verdict: Kalli has a Double Ear Infection AND Pneumonia. Before we left the hospital they gave her doses of Zithromax and Albuterol to get her through the night and the scripts for us to go to the pharmacy in the morning with.
Needless to say, at 10 when the girls went to bed they didn't make a peep and I'm exhausted and sore. No one said anything about this when I signed up for motherhood. Not that I would change a thing.
Saturday
Another wonderful part of motherhood...
